LAYLA MAJNUN

• The prelude of Layla Majnun by Syeikh Nizami Ganzavi sets a romantic style. It’s proved by the poetry that begins the story.
• The prelude tells us about the main character, Qays or Majnun, who was born from a rich family. We can see a little culture of Bani Amir, a tribe in Arabian, Qays’ father’s tribe. We see how rich Qays’ father is. For example, his father holds a thanks giving party/aqiqah until seven days.
• When I read the first paragraph, I felt amazed. I knew that this story would be a romantic story ever that I’ve read. There is assumption that the story of Romeo and Juliet was inspired by this story.. the more I read the story, the more I entered into the story.
• The great detail and description about the town and the culture made me know what did Qays think of and the way he thought. The author was too clever to hide what will happen to Qays and Layla next.
• I think the prelude is very effective to make a reader curious with the story. The author’s writing style and unpredictable story made me wanted to continue reading the story to find out what will happen to Layla and Majnun and what is the end of the story.
